4. Sichuan-Tibet Highway
The Sichuan-Tibet Highway, originally called the Kangding-Tibet Highway (a section of the No. 318 National Trunk Highway) takes you through vast, open landscapes with majestic peaks vaulting skyward. Landslides and rock avalanches are common. Make sure you get your vehicle and yourself well-prepared before driving this road. In China, the number of deaths caused by car accidents had nearly doubled in the past 20 years, climbing from 3.9 to 7.6 per 100,000 of the population between 1985 and 2005.
