9. Unpasteurized Dairy Products

Listeriosis is a dangerous infection that can lead to miscarriage, severe illness and even stillbirth. Pasteurization is the most effective way to kill off any harmful bacteria, without changing the nutritional value of the products. Therefore, pregnant women are advised to consume only pasteurized milk, cheese and fruit juice.
10. Canned Foods
Canned foods are not completely safe for pregnant women as food reacts chemically with the metal container and most cans often contains Bisphenol A (BPA) which leak into food and drink, leading to an 80 per cent increase in the risk of miscarriage. The risk of spoilage jumps sharply as storage temperatures rise. At prolonged storage temperatures above 75 degrees, nutrient loss in canned foods increases. Therefore it is best to eat fresh fruits and vegetables which usually have more nutrients than canned foods.
